When Lego released their last Harry Potter set in 2007, rumors were rife that this would be the last set they ever released for the franchise. Then in late 2009 there came more rumors, of a Harry Potter LEGO video game in the same league as the Star Wars, Batman and Indiana Jones LEGO games. When that game was finally announced as Harry Potter LEGO Years 1-4 and a trailer released online then fans of the Harry Potter LEGO range knew that new sets couldn't be too far behind the game's May 2010 release date. They were right.
In February 2010 at the New York Toy Fair images were officially released for the first time of the new wave of Harry Potter LEGO sets to be released in October 2010. There are a total of six new sets some of which have been released in different versions before. Reissues include the perennial favourite Hogwarts castle and the Hogwarts Express as well as Hagrid's Hut and Dobby's Release. The final two are a Quidditch Lesson and the eagerly awaited Weasley House, also known as The Burrow.
New figures in this wave include new versions of all the main characters including Harry, Ron, Hermione and Voldemort as well as completely new mini figures of Bellatrix Lestrange, Luna Lovegood, Professor Flitwick, Fenrir Greyback, Oliver Wood, Ginny Weasley, Molly Weasley and Arthur Weasley.
The biggest set is a redesign of Hogwarts Castle, the fourth version since LEGO began releasing sets in 2001. Priced at $129 the set includes a whopping 11 mini figures and also includes newly painted versions of Hedwig and other owls as well as a painted sorting hat. Like most sets in the 20
10 wave this Hogwarts Castle is not necessarily designed around the latest movie but seems to hark back to previous instalments in the series or is a fun mix of a few eras. The centerpiece of this latest Hogwarts set is the Great Hall where students can sit and feast at house tables.
The Harry Potter LEGO line is at last back up and running. Hopefully it is the first wave in the coming years as the movie franchise comes to its thrilling conclusion.
